This article provides an analysis of the place occupied by philosophy in relation to the two cultures –science and humanities- in so far as philosophy may play the role of a “third culture”. This position is compared with other efforts to establish that third place on behalf of the reflections of natural scientists or of Sociology as a third scientific form in face of the mentioned dichotomy. The thirdness of philosophy is also considered in face of another well known dichotomy –science/technology- by the assignment of sense as the proper trait of its reflections, opposite to truth as the intended property of the propositions of scientific theories, and to the efficacy linked to technological productions. En este artículo se analiza la posición de la filosofía con relación a la tradicional oposición entre las dos culturas –las ciencias y las letras-, en la medida en que la filosofía pueda desempeñar el papel de una “tercera cultura”. Esta posición se contrasta con otros intentos de establecer ese tercer lugar en beneficio de la reflexión de los científicos naturales o de la Sociología como una tercera forma científica frente a la dicotomía citada. Igualmente se considera la terceridad cultural de la filosofía frente a otra dicotomía bien conocida –ciencia/tecnología- asignando a la filosofía el sentido como la característica propia de sus reflexiones, frente a la verdad como presunta propiedad de los enunciados de las teorías científicas y la eficacia que está ligada a las realizaciones técnicas. |
